Historic Hopkins County Courthouse an Architectural Gem
Published Mar 03, 2008

The Hopkins County Courthouse looks great. In fact, it has received awards for its renovations.

The courthouse that was constructed in 1895 underwent a complete restoration in 2003. The Romanesque revival building in Sulphur Springs was largely built of pink granite and red sandstone, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

The courthouse occupies the northeast corner of the town square. More than $3 million in restoration work was funded through The Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program.

Then-Gov. George W. Bush kicked off the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program at the courthouse in 1998.
